Privacy Policy

Rookery · Last updated September 13, 2026

This policy explains how Rookery, a chess app for Android and iOS, handles your information. The short version: your data stays on your phone.

Information we collect

None. Rookery has no accounts, no sign-in and no server. We do not collect, transmit or store your personal information.

Information stored on your device

So the app can work offline, it saves the following in its private storage on your device:

This data never leaves your device. It is not sent to us, and we cannot see it.

Optional usage data

Settings → Privacy contains a switch called Share anonymous usage data, which is off by default. If you turn it on, the app may send anonymous product events (for example, "a game was finished"). These never include your name, your games, your device identifiers, or anything that could identify you. As of this version no analytics provider is connected, so nothing is sent even when the switch is on.

Advertising and purchases

Rookery contains no ads, no advertising SDKs, no in-app purchases and no subscriptions.

Permissions

Rookery does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, location, photos or files. It plays sound effects and can vibrate; both can be turned off in Settings.

Children

Rookery is suitable for all ages. Because we collect no personal information from anyone, we collect none from children, and the app complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) by not collecting data at all.

Deleting your data

Settings → Privacy → Reset all data permanently deletes everything Rookery has stored on your device. Uninstalling the app removes it as well. We hold no copy, so there is nothing to request from us.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new "last updated" date.
